| Starting meds and sobriety Aug 17, 2002 Hello again, several days ago i sent a question intended for the drug interactions part of this forum. I have been thinking about my question regarding ecstacy use with viagra and poppers. What kind of a fool am I? I began thinking about what got me to the point where i contracted HIV and it mostly had to do with my penchant for escapism through substance abuse. Well, a sobering dose of reality hit me yestreday when i went to the pharmacist to get my first prescription of HIV medication. A guy next to me was trying to huslte a script for Oxcycontin without much success. I suppose if he had known what i was there for we could have both looked at each other and said, "But for the grace of God there go I." The truth is that i doubt if i can ever truly enjoy the wonderful times with my lover, listening to music, talking, making love, while on E, as we have had before i tested positive. Thankfully, somehow, she is not HIV positve. Today, along with my life and so many beautiful reasons to be grateful, that is the greatest gift i have. The true value of a decent life shines through after gaining wisdom, strength and courage. Making the right choice at the critical times are very hard for some of us but the rewards are far greater than making the easier choice. I do not plan to put my life further in jeopardy with my foolish lust for heightened pleasure. Those days are past. I know this may be somewhat off topic but if only one person who reads it can gain something from it, well, that's more hope for all of us. Thank you very much, Dan |
