I have been with my physician for 6 years now, ever since he successfully brought me back from near death after contracting pneumonia. I have been unhappy with his seeming lack of caring and concern. He's always on vacation, always unavailable for appointments. I live 50 miles from his office and am considering looking for a new Doctor. I am confused as to how to go about it. How do I locate a highly qualified doctor in regards to HIV/AIDS? I do not know where to start.

Try going to the American Academy of HIV Medicine website. Try calling local hospital to see if they have a referral program. Try calling a support groups (e.g., GMHC) to see if they know of someone. Try calling the closest medical school or university-affiliated medical center to see if they know of someone. If you know other people living with HIV, ask who they go to and if they're happy with that provider.
