When is 2 better than none?
Jun 5, 2002

Given that everyone is different& understanding in general 3 drug combo is the current recomendation,I have had a past of doing poorly on 3 drug combo's due to side effects.Adherence has not been a problem. With counts& percentage putting me in AIDS diagnosis wouldn't it be better to take 2 tolerable drugs than none?My current doctor says I must take 3 or they won't give me anything.

Response from Dr. Young

Point well taken, but because of issues of drug resistance, there is really no basis of giving you a two drug regimen. I'd certainly persue talking about alternative three drug regimens, like triple (or quad) nucleosides (like Trizivir), or non-nuke regimens.
