Alternative treatment methods
Mar 16, 2002
Since being diagnosed recently with HIV, I have actively searched for information regarding the treatment for HIV/Aids. What are your comments on non-medical websites that preach a cure or an effective lifestyle for HIV/Aids individuals? E.g., Genuine hope or flash in the pan? These are some of the mentioned websites: http://aliveandwell-eugene.dreamhost.com/ http://www.drclark.net/hiv/hiv_start.htm
Hope to hear your views on this soon. Thanks! Adam

Call me a science geek, but I find that most of these are a "flash in the pan". Indeed, sites that try to convince persons with advanced disease from taking combination therapies for HIV are irresponsible, if not unethical.
We have several patients in our practice who, after the sage advice of one such group (HEAL), stopped taking their medications. All presented after one-three years later with advanced AIDS and multiple AIDS-related complications. One patient spent 2 months in the hospital and nearly died of disseminated MAC infection.
Lifestyle is important for one's overall health; it just doesn't cure chronic viral infections. BY
