Response from Dr. Cohen
Well - first issue. Viagra is metabolized by the enzyme system p450. and ritonavir in particular blocks the function of this enzyme. So the concern is that the drug viagra may result in very high levels in the blood of someone on ritonavir. But there are some drugs that we thought we be a problem with ritonavir that later were not so problematic after all. The issue is dose - if one does decide to chance it - then start only with the lowest dose - and maybe even half of the smallest dose (25 mg.) And if you decide to try it - please let us know what happened (well, not everything that happened) to know if people are finding it safe to take or not. And we'll get the word around. And re poppers - the concern here is low blood pressure - so avoid combining until further notice. Be careful out there... but hope all goes well with this. CC | |||
