i have been informed that this was the state of the art medication mix. Am I being mislead?

Response from Dr. McGowan
Mondo,
There is nothing wrong with your combination. There is a large trial called the ARIES study which had very good outcomes with this combo.
It has not become popular because of some recent data that Abacavir may be linked to a higher rate of heart attack in people who have recent use (within 6 months). You would be at most risk if you have other factors, such as smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity that may put you at increased risk for heart attack in general. As long as the combo is working you can discuss these other factors with your doctor to see what your individual risk might be.
Best,
Joe
