What HIV meds run higher risk of Lipodystrophy (loosing fat in face)? Does Lexiva, Kaletra, or Truvada cause Lipodystrophy? If so, please adivse which meds dont cause that if any
Response from Dr. Wohl
This is a complicated question. In general, we know that tenofovir+3TC+Kaletra seems to not be associated with fat loss of the limbs and I suspect the same is true for Lexiva. Fat gain, such as in the abdomen, is common and seen with all potent HIV meds although abnormal belly fat increases are not typical.
At these sites you will learn the basics and read about common misconceptions regarding body shape and HIV meds.
