|Viracept: What To Take (food ) With it?
Aug 26, 1999
I've been living with HIV for at least 4.5 yrs.Presently I'm taking; viracept, epivir, zerit and dapsone.I've been having to deal with chronic diarrhea from the viracept and with the help of immodium,I sometimes have regular bowel movements. My question is,what types of food should I take with my medicine? And What foods should I stay away from, since my stomach doesn't seem to digest very well, anymore? I've noticed that I seem to have diarrhea almost immediately from a high fatty food(s). Can you suggest a daily diet? Thanks, RJ from LA, CA.
Response from Dr. Dieterich
Dear RJ, Certainly I would avoid milk and milk products. An earlier questioner succeeded with metamucil or any fiber supplement. Another way to go is a pancreatic enzyme supplement like Ultrase MT 20 or others. They can help you digest fat, which sounds like what you require. Imodium is fine to take as well as all the others up to about 8 capsules per day. Douglas T. Dieterich, M.D.
