weight
Jan 19, 2000

Hi I am HIV positive. I would like to know why it is more appropriate to compare my present weight to my ususal weight than to compare it to a weight chart? What would be the disadvantage of the latter?

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Dear HIV +, The weight charts are for life insurance and usually underestimate the standard weights of people considerably. Your normal weight is more suited to you and what your body concluded was normal for you. Douglas T. Dieterich, M.D.
