weight control for teens
Jun 8, 2001

What should teens do to control their weight and stay fit?

Response from Ms. Fields-Gardner

During teen years there is still a lot of activity going on in growth and development that depends heavily on having adequate nutrition. Staying fit and healthy requires exercise and good food intake. There is a balance to maintain between enough nutrition to support the normal growth and development and too much or too little.

If you have gained excess weight, especially as a teenager, you need to be careful about how you go about taking it off. Everyone is different and you will need recommendations that fit your personal needs. You can talk with a dietitian who works with teens about where you are now as far as being fit and healthy. A dietitian along with a physical therapist or a certified personal trainer (ask for certification) can help you to figure out your best choices for food and exercise. It is worth doing well to stay healthy!
