Aids mal nutriton syndrom and ulcerated colitus
Dec 18, 2003

I have been diagnosed with Aids mal nutrition syndrom and ulcerated colitus have been hospilized 3 times from dehidration. I have 13 to 20 bowel movements a day. I'm on Pregnazone 40mg and Asacol. Which is not working. I'm takeing asrolagus, ginger root, colon care, colustum, Shannon botanicals. I watch my diet extremly low fat high protein. I have 23 t-cells and over one million viral load. My HIV medications are Tipranavir,t-20, veramune, veracept, norvir. Please desperate for any advice. John

Response from Dr. Moyle

Dear John, It sounds like you are already getting a lot of sophisticated advice. Clearly getting your anti HIV medications right is critical to recovery so make sure there are no missed doses. I would also get advice from a dietitian about supplements ....sometimes 'elemental' feeds are best absorbed and less likely to trigger diarrhoea than conventional supplements. I presume you have had stool cultures to check for infection and a biospy of the gut. If not these should be done and consideration given to a course of Ciproxin 500mg bid for 7 days to treat any bugs that might be missed in a sample. I hope this provides some new string points Regards Graeme Moyle
