Silicone 1000
Oct 12, 2003

I am looking at cosmetic options for facial wasting. What are the pros/cons of Silicone 1000 treatments.

Thanks for your help

Response from Dr. Moyle

Rather than going to details here I suggest you go to www.facial wasting.org which has a detailed discussion about various treatments. Some silicon treatments can trigger inflammatory reactions and once injected silicon is not biodegradable and cannot be removed. There are some studies going on looking at new silicon formulations in the treatment of HIV-associated facial wasting to test whether these have improved safety as well as optimal efficacy. It is important to get as much information as possible about the treatments that may be available to you & get as much independent advice. In the UK we are currently using NewFill and are beginning to look at the potential of Bioalcimed as facial fillers. These are markedly different products for each have their virtues with regards to treatment of facial lipoatrophy. Before you get into plastic surgery may be worthwhile talking to your doctor about what changes to your treatment regimens may be helpful.

Best wishes

Graeme Moyle
