Hormones?
Aug 11, 2003

I'm puney now. I'm 5-8 113 Lbs. My Dr says this is a good weight but you know VA Dr's. I have herd about human growth hormones and how they can make your what I call "Pill belly" go away and make you gain weight. Though the VA will stuff other drugs down me the won't give me anything to get my body back. They don't seem to understand that sitting on anything other than a pillow hurts, and have you ever bumped a bone?

I live fairly close to Mexico so .. slipping over the border would be no biggie. WHat are the drawbacks. How can I talk my Dr into giving them to me legaly? Please advise ...

Response from Dr. Moyle

Growth hormone is an approved drug in the US for AIDS wasting. If you can convince your doctor that you have AIDS wasting, i.e. demonstrating that you have lost 10 percent or more of your body weight or have a body mass index below 20 then you would be a candidate for growth hormone therapy. There have been stories of counterfeited growth hormone and while the FDA have cracked down on this in the US you should be careful about ever considering buying illegally provided growth hormone either in another country or over the Internet. Growth hormone does indeed help with weight gain and normalising body shape. The benefits may be partially transient although some people say it kick starts weight gain. It needs to be injected every day. It gives aches and pains in joints and muscles and may cause transient fluid retention.

You should also investigate with your doctor possible reasons as to why you may have lost weight, and discuss with the dietician ways in which you may be able to gain weight without resorting to hormonal therapies

Best regards

Graeme Moyle
