Response from Ms. Fields-Gardner
Insulin resistance has been considered a culprit in fat redistribution. Chronic HIV infection, medications, response to treatment from very low CD4 counts or very high viral loads, hormonal and organ function alterations, co-existing diseases, smoking, alcohol use, diet, and exercise are among the list of suspects. Some of these items can initiate insulin resistance or make it worse if it already exists. Some are risk factors on their own. |
