|Normal Period after infection and before syndrome
Jun 2, 2002
1)How long will it take for HIV to show syndrome a) for healthy person b) for weak person? 2)Can any medication be taken before HIV infection leads to AIDS? 3)Will Elisa test be positive just after HIV infection or it is positive only after the syndrome starts? Note: I mean by HIV infection the time at which HIV gets in to the body. Thank You.

The time to show symptoms of HIV infection and immune deficiency varies widely and appears to depend on viral load, T-cell count, and other factors. Medications are introduced according to benefit vs. risk decisions (you may want to explore the current guidelines for the initiation of medications via the link below). And, finally, a PCR test may be preferable to establish seropositivity. It takes an immune reaction to infection before tests will show positive. If by "syndrome" you mean AIDS, then tests can show a positive earlier than AIDS is diagnosed. treatment guidelines
