best combo
Feb 26, 2004
Hi,
Assuming no existing resistance to current meds, what combo do you recommend for treatment naive patients to avoid the lipo et al.. side effects? Also, assuming one takes such meds what is the statistical risk of actually developing the lipo side effects? Thanks very much for your thoughts on this matter. You provide a great service to the HIV community!!
Thanks.
Jon

Response from Dr. Moyle

Regimens which appear to be least associated with fat loss in randomised comparative clinical trials are
tenofovir/3TC/Efavirenz
abacavir/3TC/efavirenz
ddI/FTC/Efavirenz
It is reasonable to consider that FTC and 3TC are interchangeable and efavirenz and nevirapine interchangeable from this point of view. Limited data indicate that atazanavir may also be OK if NNRTIs are not well tolerated.
I hope this helps
regards
Graeme Moyle
