		First regimen Feb 26, 2004 Dear Dr. Moyle, I am very concered about lipodystrophy. Could you please give an advice what would be the best first regimen to avoid this condition. What are the medications that are known to cause lipodystrophy. Thank you very much in advance for your kind respond. Peter


Advertisement Response from Dr. Moyle Dear Peter Regimens which appear to be least associated with fat loss in randomised comparative clinical trials are tenofovir/3TC/Efavirenz abacavir/3TC/efavirenz ddI/FTC/Efavirenz It is reasonable to consider that FTC and 3TC are interchangeable and efavirenz and nevirapine interchangeable from this point of view. Limited data indicate that atazanavir may also be OK if NNRTIs are not well tolerated. Combinations including d4T and a protease inhibitor appear most associated.
