How do I gain weight?
May 25, 2001
I test HIV+ four months ago.
I've learned to deal with the stress of my illness. Everywhere that I go, everyone has noticed that I have loss a lot of weight especially muscle mass. The muscle mass I can understand becuase I use to lift wights because I use to play NCAA football and I not longer run or lift weights at all. But, the weight loss is making me depressed. I began drinking 3 ensure a day starting last week. What else can I eat or do to gain 20 pounds, in the next month? Are there any special foods that I can eat or snack on.

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Good question. There is no magic here. You should certainly continue consuming more calories. You should also ask your MD to test your testosterone level, if it is down, then you may benefit from supplementation, which is easy. Finally, if you really want to gain muscle mass, you need to exercise at least 3 times per week, but if you were a football player, you know that. Good Luck! DTD
