ARE THERE ANY STUDIES DONE ON MIXING MEDICINE AND HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS TOGETHER TO HELP FIGHT INFECTION?

Response from Dr. Moyle

There have not been studies which indicate benefit for people with HIV from herbal supplements. Several, notably St Johns Wort (hypericin) and garlic supplements, have harmful interactions with some of the proven HIV meds, reducing their effectiveness. Others have harmful side effects and have been banned in some countries (for example Kava Kava). Additionally, more pills complicates the treatment schedule making adherence more difficult. Talks these things through carefully with your doctor before embarking on this type of approach

Best Wishes
