Suggestions To Promote Weight Gain
Jun 22, 2003
Husband lost 25 pounds prior to HIV+ diagnoses. Started med regimen 2 months ago and is still unable to gain back weight. Note: since starting meds (Combivir/Ziagen/Sustiva)he eats us out of house and home (appetite definitely not a problem). Any suggestions on good supplements?

Response from Dr. Moyle

I am not quite sure why he needs 4 medications ....but the meds are not the problem. In generally after starting therapy people gain weight over the first 4-6 months. It may be a bit soon to expect much obvious weight gain yet but if he is eating plenty then he will eventually gain weight. Supplements are really only helpful if someone is having trouble eating. If the appetits is good just eating more of what you like is the best thing. If you do a bit of exercise regularly too this will help the weight go on in a 'normal' pattern rather than just gaining fat around the middle
Best Wishes
Graeme
