What exactly are the symptoms of high insulin, insulin resistance and very high normal glucose levels?
Apr 26, 2004

Dear Dr. Moyle, What are the symptoms of insulin resistance and very high normal glucose levels? On that HgB 1a (?) test that gives you the three month average for your glucose, I was at 5.9 with 6 being the highest level for a non diabetic. Am awaiting results of a glucose tolerance test done yesterdy (was not very pleasant..struggled not to throw up the glucose).

Can you please clarify the symptoms that one feels from high insulin (mine is 34.4 with highest for normal at 17), insulin resistance and glucose levels that average 105 to 125? Would it explain nausea,a speeded up metabolism/racing pulse rates, fluctuating high blood pressure, hot and clammy skin and neuropathies etc?

Many thanks for the wonderful service and advice that you provide.

Many thanks.

Response from Dr. Moyle

Usually there are no symptoms and with a normal HbA1C it means that you glucose must be normal at least most of the time. High blood sugar can lead to symptoms including fatigue, thirst and increased urination. Insulin resistance is part of the metabolic syndrome, a collection of findings including high blood lipids and fat accumulation in the abdomen

regards

Graeme Moyle
