Traveling From U.S. to India While Living With HIV
Sep 5, 2017
Do you know if American citizens are allowed to travel to India who are HIV positive? Are there any restrictions?
Response from Ms. Goldfein
According to www.hivtravel.org, a global website developed by internationally recognized AIDS organizations, India has no restrictions on visitors with HIV. Individuals applying for a visa, residency, or work permit are not asked HIV-related questions. In addition to information on entry and residence regulations, hivtravel.org has some basic traveling with HIV tips. The website was last updated in 2011, but I have no reason to believe this information is no longer accurate.
If you are planning a trip, be sure to also check out the U.S. Department of State's Traveler's Checklist site, which has helpful tips for LGBT travelers and people with disabilities.
