Consistent Viral Load and CD4
Sep 28, 2001

Hi Doctor, I have been positive for 2 years. I have had consistent VL and CD4 counts. VL around 30,000 copies and CD4 around 750. Can you answer 2 questions. Can tests indicate likely infection timeframe and likely medical treatment being required

Thank you

Response from Dr. Holodniy

There are no tests to answer your first question. In terms of treatment being required, current guidelines suggest treatment should be started when the CD4 count is < 350 and/or a viral load > 30-55,000/ml. You are at a stage where I would recommend holding off starting therapy, but still continuing to monitor your numbers. MH
