AVS = no antibodies?
Sep 15, 2001

Mark,

Does the fact that a person still has AVS, even after an extended time (i.e. at week 13, and have had symptoms for the past two months)mean that he or she has still likely not produced detectable antibodies that will show in an ELISA test? Or can one have AVS and also begin producing detectable antibodies? Must one stop being symptomatic before antibody production begins?

Many thanks!

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Symptoms of HIV infection are directly related to the development of antibodies against the virus.
