| How do you define acute infection? Sep 15, 2001 Dr. Holodniy, Thanks for all of your hard work on this forum! In a recent post (dry eyes/dry mouth - please comment!) you replied by saying "These are not symptoms of acute HIV infection." I would like to know what time frame constitutes acute infection. Assuming one is infected, are we talking 1 month, 6 months, anything less than 1 year, etc. = acute infection?(Basically what differentiates acute from chronic.) Much thanks! |

Acute in terms of symptoms is really within the first several weeks of exposure and infection. There are a few people who have lingering symptoms out to a year. | |||
