| need your opinion one more time May 20, 1999 Dear Dr, first thankyou for your dedication. I have written with several questions, but am truly at a loss now. 8 weeks ago I developed what appeared to be hairy leukoplakia which self-resloved in a few days. tested negative to hiv 1/2 . about 1 week after the OHL, got accutely sick with anorexia and diarrhea which has lessened somewhat but still comes and goes. was retested twice more neg. and a negative rna ultrasensetive pcr. Here's the kicker; in 1 months time my cd4 went fom 620 to 437, the % stayed the same, 39%. my cd4/cd8 ratio went from 1.3 to 1.1 which is also good i think. I am a single mom of a healthy daughter who is almost 6 and am worried something is wrong even if not HIV. MY questions 1) is it a good sign that my cd4/cd8 ratio os ok, i would assume for me to be hiv symptamatic it should be less than 1.0? 2) can you offer any insight into what this could be or where I should go from here? thanks |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
T cells counts can have natural variations depending on the time of day, different kinds of infections, drug affects, among others. Your symptoms are very nonspecific. I don't think you need further HIV testing. Let time take it's course. MH | |||
