| Sore glands Jul 28, 1998 This may not be the forum for this question but thought I'd give it a shot. I've had a great deal of soreness in areas where one would expect to find swollen lymph nodes, however, no one can feel any swollen nodes beyond what they consider benign. Yet this soreness under the arms, in the neck and chin and occasionally the groin persist. Can nodes be painful without being swollen? Thanks if you're able to address this... and even if you're not, thanks for a very informative site... |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
Usually pain is associated with swelling of nodes, because the tissue capsule surrounding the node is stretched. This can occur because of inflammation (cells coming into the node) as a reaction to infection, autoimmune diseases, or cancers. Small nodes can also be painful if they obstruct blood flow or impinge on local nerves to cause pain. MH | |||
