| Uncertain messages from doctors please advice Sep 8, 2001 Dr. Recently I met a transvestite and had close contact. First I massaged him in the outside of the butt area and he ejaculated with his underwear on. Then after a few minutes he went to bathroom and I do not know if he touched himself more or if he washed his hands. Shortly after I put my penis on his leg and breasts and then he gave me hand job. The same day I had burning when urinating in my penis and had inflammation in groin area for about a week. I was treated with Zithromax for the burning so I do not know if I had an STD although I assume I did because I never had a burning pain when urinating before. I went to an Infectious disease doctor to discuss my concerns. He ordered a PCR DNA qualitative which was nonreactive after only 1 week. He also ordered a Tcell test after 8 weeks which showed CD4 at only 575. I have no other risky exposures. Subsequently, I have visited another Dr. who said the PCR DNA was no good and disputed a CD4 count being done. Dr. if you can address my concerns? Based on the exposure I had is there a potential for HIV contraction? Also should I be concerned about the low CD4 as one of the infectious disease doctors was and it has put me obviously unsure of which doctor to work with? |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
I will address only the CD4 count issue. A normal range for CD4 count ranges from 500-1500, depending on the lab and their reference ranges. | |||
