Thrush/Neg test

Sep 8, 2001

Dr. Holodnity, If someone was to experience thrush and took an hiv test after window (three months& 5 1/2 months) would this indicate the thrush was caused by something else besides HIV? Or should more time be waited until another test was performed?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Oral yeast infections are not specific for HIV infection. There are a multitude of possible reasons why thrush is present including prior antibiotic or steroid use, other infections, cancers, etc.
