sevoconversion lasts 4 months?
Mar 18, 1999

Dear Dr. Holodniy:

I had a medium risk exposure: protected vaginal sex with a prosititute. It is now 5 months and 1 week after that exposure. I have had numerous ELISAs, 2 RNA PCRs, 1 bDNA throughout the last 5 months; with the last ELISA being done at exactly 5 months. Everyone, including you in previous messages, said that I should rule out HIV.

I still have one symptom (elevated temperature of 99.5 maximum, that fluctuates throughout the day) that began almost 4 months ago.; and everytime my temperature is high, it makes me tired. QUESTION IS:::: IF THIS PERSISTENT (4 MONTHS) TEMPERATURE WERE INDEED SYMPTOM OF HIV, WOULDN'T IT MEAN THAT MY BODY SHOULD BE PRODUCING ENOUGH ANTIBODIES BY NOW FOR ELISA TO PICK UP???? If that's true, can I really conclude that I don't have HIV based on this reasoning, even though I am still suffering from this "strange" temperature????

Please help. I have exhausted my resources with 5 doctors.

James

Response from Dr. Holodniy

With all those different tests being negative, you do not have HIV infection. Not sure what the minimally elevated temp is from. MH
