question about viral infenctions
Jul 29, 1999

Dr. Holodniy,

I recently had what is considered a low risk possible exposure to HIV (recieving unprotected oral sex), about 10 days later I developed a soar throat (lasted about 12 hrs.), followed by nasal congestion and sneezing, then a low grade fever and excessive facial sweating (daytime), then a rash on my chest (1 small red dot on the right side and 2 on the left side) followed by joint and muscle pain. I have never before been sick during the summer months, is it possible to get the flu or a viral infection during the summer? Before these symptoms came about I had been traveling (flying) about once a week (for a month), also been going from extreme hot temperature outdoors to an airconditioned apartment, could either those be a factor as well? thank you for your time.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Sounds like flu or other upper respiratory infection. MH
