| ARC Jan 28, 1999 HI, COULD YOU PLEASE DEFINE AIDS RELATED COMPLEX? IS THIS WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT TEST POSITIVE ON ELISA OR ANY TEST FOR HIV? MAYBE THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH US WHO HAVE ONGOING SYMPTOMS???? WHAT IS THE USUAL SYMPTOMS OF THIS, THE SAME AS HIV? DOES THIS CAUSE DEATH OR IS IT LESS SEVERE THAN HIV OR AIDS? I JUST DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT AND THOUGHT YOU COULD CLARIFY. THANKS.ALSO, HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS OR HOW COMMON IS IT? IS IT ANOTHER STRAIN OF HIV THAT IS NOT DETECTABLE? |

ARC, or AIDS related complex, is a historical term that still has some clinical utility. ARC is for HIV POSITIVE people and signifies a stage where patients have gone from being asymptomatic to having symptoms like fevers, swollen glands, thrush; before they develop AIDS.
