3 negative ELISAs over 12 years; now AIDS ???
May 20, 1999

Dr. Holodniy,

This is in regards to a question posted which seems odd and yet you didn't comment on the unusual scenario... Could you elicit more details from the individual who posted this message - especially as to the time lines (month and year) of the various tests and procedures (such as when the last possible exposure, date of tests, and date of tongue biopsies...) I would also like to hear your take on this set of circumstances…

Thanks.

Original Question: (I stopped having unsafe sex 12 years ago; celibate now. I had 2 ELISAs per State Health, then one in hospital with FUO--another negative ELISA. Hairy leukoplakia diagnosed after two biopsies; stinging feet and foot drop. A year later positive ELISA, CD4 173. Is anyone interested in verifiable negative ELISAs? (One ELISA negative after 1 year of AZT & Indinavir and about 4 months of 3-drug cocktail.) This was in 1997. Now still on 3 drug (DMP-266; Abacavir; 1592) cocktail with undetectable viral load, but neuro symptoms persist. Pure Finn descent. )

Response from Dr. Holodniy

It has generated alot of comment. Lets see if there are answers. MH
