Hep C and cure
Aug 18, 2001

I am a 22 year old male with a recent (last week) testing of positive for HCV. Is this condition acute or chronc? I have no symptoms of fatigue or liver problems. A HCV PCR quantitative analysis confirmed the bad news with a viral load count of 426,585 IU/ML. What are the chances of successful treatment and cure? And how should I begin treatment? Thanks so much!

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You have by definition chronic HCV infection, the duration of which is unclear. It is likely given your description that you are earlier, rather than later in the course of infection. You need to see a liver specialist and be evaluated to determine whether you need treatment.
