WB 2
Apr 16, 1999

Thanks again Dr. for your answer to my previous question on WB. What's the advantage of runing a WB with a negative ELISA? Is the WB more accurate than the ELISA? Does the WB have some predictive value during accute infection? Wouldn't be better to test with WB than ELISA?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You might pick up a few new infections by running both that you wouldn't have picked up by serial ELISA tests. Cost becomes a big factor if both tests had to be done on everyone screening for HIV infection. A WB might be slightly more accurate in early infection, but not by much. After a couple of months they are about the same. MH
