HIV 2 and Testing for HIV1
Apr 26, 1999

Dear Doc:

Wouldn't a person infected with HIV 2 show something in 1. ELISA TEST for HIV1 2. Western Blot for HIV1

Thanks a lot as I have read some confusing things around this issue, mainly that in Western Blot atleast SOME strains would show up. You do all of us a BIG BIG help and education. Thanks a lot

Response from Dr. Holodniy

HIV-2 infection may not show up in a HIV-1 only ELISA. There may be a positive band or two in the HIV-1 western blot. There are specific ELISAs and western blots for HIV-2. MH
