| Where on the slope am I? Jun 7, 1999 I had an antibody test and bDNA test 4 1/2 weeks after exposure. My antibody test was negative, my viral load 18K. At six weeks my DNA-PCR was 130K and at eight weeks my DNA-PCR was 200K. Treatment was started at eight weeks. My doctor and others have explained that when a person is first infected, their viral load jumps and later settles to its set point. Given the times and the numbers involved, would 200K be a reasonable set point, or would it indicate that I was still on the way up, or in the midst of viral, t-cell "battle"? My t-cell count at eight weeks, the only one taken, was 550. Thanks |

It is a little hard to determine a set point after 8 weeks of infection. You may have still been going up. After 3-6 months, one can better determine what the set point would be. Because you started treatment so early in the disease course, you will probably never know what your true set point is, unless you go off the drugs later for some reason. MH | |||
