Viral load in untreated patients

Nov 22, 1999

I wonder how many of the US HIV-patients are untreated, or is the major part of the patients involved in some kind of treatment with antiviral drugs? What is the average(or normal span) viral load value for untreated HIV-patients? Where can I find this data if you do not have the resources to find it?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I would suspect that the majority in the US, are involved in some form of treatment. This is clearly not the case world wide. There is no "average" viral load per se. Every person infected has a different viral load level, which is consistent over days, months, and even years in the few patients where this has been studied long term. MH
