VIRAL LOAD WITH OUT THERAPY
Jul 6, 1999

DEAR DOCTRO,TWO QUESTIONS 1)IS IT POSIBLE TO HAVE A NEGATIVE QUANTITATIVE PCR RESULT (<400 COPIES)AFTER 4 WEEK OF RISK CONTACT, WITHOUT HAVING THERAPY? 2) WICH IS THE AVERAGE LEVEL OF VIRAL LOAD 4 WEEKS AFTER POSIBLE INFECTION IN AN AVERAGE PEOPLE?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

PCR tests should be NEGATIVE in people WITHOUT HIV infection. If someone is truly infected, then after 4 weeks of infection, viral load should be in the thousands.
