Undetectable VL and CD4 count
Jan 17, 2000

I tested HIV+ in September, 1999. My Viral Load has been undetectable every time. The first 3 tests showed my CD4 count to be 497, but the last test showed my CD4 count went up to 897. My Dr. thinks I'm a "long-term progressor" based on the tests. I've asked how my CD4 count can increase since I'm not on any meds. He didn't really have an answer, and I was curious to see what your opinion is.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

We have discussed this before in this forum. There is a natural variability in the white blood cell count. It can very by time of day, because of infections, medications, among other reasons. Whatever the variable, it can affect the percentage and absolute count of CD4 cells. MH
