Quantitative Vs Ultra
Jun 7, 2000

My Dr ordered a Ultra Viral Load test how is this different from the Quantitative Viral Load test?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Both are quantitative tests, that is they give a specific number for the viral load. Qualitative tests are just yes or no that viral load is present or not. The ultra test has a lower copy limit of detection of 50 copies/ml. A regular quantitative test has a lower copy limit of 400 copies/ml. Thus, the ultra is more sensitive. MH
