N6 update

Dec 17, 2017

N6 was considered major break through for s functional cure for HIV infected people stoping 98% of the virus. Yet I have not heard any updates in the past year. Did N6 end up not being as successful as first thought?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

N6 is an antibody, which was found to neutralize almost all kinds of HIV strains in the test tube. A study published this summer where macaque primates infected with simian-human immunodeficiency virus (SHIV) were infused N6 or N6 + PGT121, another broadly neutralizing antibody. Although viral loads were significantly reduced temporarily, including inside blood cells, they rebounded after antibody levels declined over a period of weeks. Combining the two antibodies was not additive, and PGT121 appeared to be more potent. Some more work and more studies need to be done.
