VDRL reactive, TPHA non reactive
Nov 26, 2017
I am suffering from reactive VDRL since 5 years ago. My VDRL result is between 1:2 to 1:8 during 5 years and TPHA test is always negetive. ( Non reactive). Before 8 months, my test resulted VDRL reactive at 1:4and TPHA non - reactive and doctor gave 14 days course of doxycycline antibiotic. I got tested after one month and the result was vdrl reactive 1:8 and TPHA negetive. Again my doctor gave me benzathine penicillin 2.4 mu 3 doses weekly. I got tested after 3 months and result was vdrl reactive 1:2 and TPHA negetive. Docror again gave me oral medication ( azithromycin 2000 mg stat) and i got tested after 1 months. But the result is still vdrl reactive at 1:2 and TPHA negetive. (I am not sexually active during my treatment period) I am very much confused whether i am treated or not?? Do i have disease or not?? Plz help on my query.

In general, both the VDRL and TPHA would be positive with syphilis infection, and the treatment received would have been adequate to treat a case of syphilis infection. I suggest you consult with an infectious disease specialist.
