CD4 CD 8 levels

Oct 22, 2017

In order to better understand am im correct when taki g meficine for HIV you want to see you CD4 numbers increase and Your CD8 numbers decrease as time goes on

Response from Dr. Holodniy

In general, yes. You absolutely want your CD4 count to increase. In most cases of HIV infection, the CD8 increases in reaction to the infection, as CD8 cells are one of the major cell types that fights HIV infection. In most cases, once the HIV viral load becomes undetectable, CD4 counts rise and CD8 cells decrease, because there is no longer the stimulation of circulating virus to increase the CD8 count.
