Cd4 and % not improving

May 8, 2016

Diagnosed positive oct. 2015. Cd4 134 vl 400,000 Started stribild in nov. Undetectable as of April 2016. Cd 4 and % improved after 3 months 234 and 8%. Last check in April showed no improvement. Is it a concern that this will not change?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

The lower the CD4 count/percent is when you start HIV treatment, the longer it can take to increase. The average increase in CD4 count after a year of treatment is about 150 cells. Once the viral load is undetectable and remains so, you will continue to see a slow increase in CD4 count as the immune system recovers.
