Fluctuation of CD4, but VL suppressed
May 4, 2014

I wonder about my lab result, My CD4 count was 187(8%), VL 2000. At 3 months after Atripla, my CD4 count raised up to 349 (16%)and VL was 80, I just got my last test 6 months after Atripla and My CD4 count was down to 252 (15%), VL was <40. I have 100% med compliance. Overall, I'm doing fine. I have not had any OI and also the swollen LNs are almost gone. Should I worry about my fluctuation of CD4? I heard that the actual CD4 may be about +/-30%..

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You have had an excellent response. Your viral load is undetectable and your CD4% has doubled. I would not be concerned about the CD4 count fluctuation, as the CD4 count can vary for a lot of reasons.
