Sudden Drop in CD4 count from 800 to 530....
Aug 4, 2013

On April 24 my t-cell count was 860 with an undetectable viral load but just last week my cd4 has dropped to 530 with still and undetectable viral load i have been on atriplia for 7 months now my nurse explained that its normal but i still am concerned. why is my cd4 count dropping?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I understand your concern, but I agree with the nurse, and especially since your viral load is undetectable. However, CD4 counts tend to jump around, and you can't really assess any trend with just two numbers. CD4 counts can vary because of time of day, stress, after immunizations, because of other ongoing medical conditions, different laboratories performing the test, among other reasons. Another test result to follow is the CD4 percent, which is a more stable number over time. I suspect the CD4% has not changed.
