End stage AIDS life expectancy
Jul 21, 2013
My dad was diagnosed with AIDS 3 months ago after having deteriorated both physically and mentally. At first it was thought to be severe depression but eventually end stage AIDs was diagnosed. He had non- hodgkins lymphoma 3 years ago too. He is being treated but has not really recovered physically or mentally being quite confused and immobile. What will his life expectancy be? As at the moment we feel like we will lose him.

Many factors enter into this equation. When you say diagnosed with AIDS, was he known to be HIV positive before then and for how long, or was he just diagnosed with HIV infection? When he had lymphoma 3 years ago, was he already HIV positive, how extensive was the lymphoma, did he receive chemotherapy then, and what was the result? What is his current CD4 count and viral load and is he on HIV treatment? Does he have other ongoing medical conditions requiring treatment?
