pregnancy and cotrimoxazole
Jul 14, 2013

Hi I am HIV positive with 230 cd4 count. My viral load is undetectable. I am currently on Kivexa and Sustiva and cotrimoxazole. My husband is negative and we use condoms. I use syringe to try and get pregnant. Now I missed two months period and i suspect I am pregnant. I did urine test and its negative. My question is does cotrimoxazole or hiv medicine im using interfere with pregnant test.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

No, those meds should not interfere with the test. But you can have the test repeated at your doctor's office or a clinic. A blood test will be more sensitive than a urine test.
