|Interpretation of blood smear
May 18, 2013
I've been positive for many years, undetectable cd4 652. My CBC has always been normal WBC, NE,LY,MO,EO,BA percentages and absolute numbers, platelets a bit over 220 000. First time I did a blood smear showed: Discreet alteration of RBC with very rare macro-ovalocytes, teardrop RBC cells and schisocytes, hypersegmented neutrophils prezent and macrocytosis. Another odd signs is the rapid increase of CD$% from 30% last november to 42% now.I also take Combivir. My doctor said she doesn't think it is leukemia but referred my to a hematologist. I need another opinion so any thoughts are appreciated.

Some of your findings, particularly in the red blood cells, are likely related to the AZT in combivir, others like hypersegmented neutrophils can also be related to vitamin deficiencies like B12 deficiency.
